Backed by Science: Christy Jensik on IM Injections
Did you know that oral supplements only have an absorption rate of 40%-60%? When your body is vitamin or nutrient deficient, it is important to address those deficiencies so you can live a full and healthy life.
Intramuscular injections are an alternative way of delivering micronutrients with an absorption rate of over 90%.
We sat down with The Burick Center’s Wellness Coordinator, Christy Jensik, RN to learn all about the amazing benefits of this type of modality.
But first, let’s get to know Christy!
How long have you been working at The Burick Center?
I’ve been working at The Burick Center for about a year now. Prior to that, I was working in New Hampshire as a psychiatric nurse for 10 years. I genuinely like people and the psychiatric part has helped me relate to people with where they are and focus on what they’d like to improve on in a realistic and personal manner. The Burick Center promotes optimal health of body, mind and soul and it’s been amazing bringing my prior experience as a psychiatric nurse and incorporating that into the holistic therapies that we offer.
Do you conduct any other types of impactful therapies outside of IM injections?
Oh yes! At the Burick Center we offer multiple types of IV Infusions as well as ozone therapy. We have treatments that anyone can benefit from.
What interested you the most in infusion therapy that encouraged you to pursue it as a career?
There are so many great answers to this question! For one, this is a new frontier. I love this unique type of medicine and truly enjoy furthering my education. I am very detailed oriented and find joy catering each infusion and IM injection to each patient, to best benefit them on an individual basis.
I love the educational part of it and educating patients in a way that resonates with them. All the treatments here are so new and upcoming. So many people have never heard of infusion therapy, IM injections or ozone therapy. It is such an honor to be a part of The Burick Center for Health and Wellness.
All the powerful properties that these modalities have – just getting it out there and letting people know about them is really what excites me. This is truly such a wonderful way to compliment any type of health or mental deviations.
Explain in your words how IM injections work?
Well for starters, the beauty of Intramuscular injections is that you do not need an IV catheter, which is one of the biggest barriers for a lot of people. An intramuscular injection is a technique used to deliver a medication deep into the muscles (usually administered in the gluteus maximus). This allows the medication to be absorbed into the bloodstream quickly.
The process is usually done and over with in just a couple of minutes. That’s what’s fabulous about it, it bypasses the gastric system, and it absorbs more efficiently than anything oral while taking no time at all.
Can you explain how exactly IM Injections are administered and how that process works?
A typical appointment from front door in:
- Sign consent forms
- Bring you into the infusion office and briefly talk to you about what you are getting
- We also discuss anything else you would like to focus on, as we have so many great treatments here at The Burick Center.
- All supplies are already prepared.
- We locate injection site, usually in the gluteus maximus.
- Clean injection site with alcohol swab and allow skin to dry.
- Inject micronutrient into muscle
- Apply pressure to injection site with gauze to ensure the medication has been absorbed into the muscle
What are the main benefits of IM injections or the most common uses?
There are so many great benefits from IM injections, some of the benefits include:
- Liver detox
- Increased immunity
- Skin brightening
- Weight loss and management
- Mood management
- Increased cognitive memory, clarity, and focus
- Increased energy
- Decrease in nausea
- Decrease in pain
Who would be a good candidate for IM injections?
Absolutely anybody!
- Alcohol drinkers – great for liver detox
- People who want brighter skin or have skin issues
- People who want extra immunity
- People who want to improve their mood
Glutathione is great, it is made from the amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. Our liver produces glutathione, but as we age, we produce less. This is a quintessential antioxidant that helps improve immune function, protects cells from free radical damage, helps body break down and purge fat, promotes mental clarity and much, much more! Lipo-B is also a gold star! Lipo-B contains B12 and 3 amino acids: Methionine, Inositol and Choline which help boost energy, promote detoxification, and stimulate weight loss.
The takeaway is that when you combine certain IM injections at the same time – they can augment one another. One of my favorites is Glutathione and NAD. You feel balanced with no anxiety and you’re just on queue! There are endless benefits to these shots.
Can you explain a little more about NAD and its benefits?
NAD+ helps combat cognitive decline and promotes neurological function. We produce NAD, but as we age, we produce less. Supplementing NAD is anti-aging on a biological level! We are all about the brain and are passionate on how to increase memory, focus and mental clarity.
